Position Overview

The Robot Programmer is responsible for the integration of industrial robots into automated and custom-built manufacturing systems. This role involves reviewing machine concepts and designs, developing and validating robotic simulations, and ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable robot operation, creating instructions for movement, integrating sensors, troubleshooting errors, and optimizing processes for efficiency and safety in manufacturing. The successful candidate will contribute to both current projects and future innovations by researching and applying emerging automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate industrial robots into automated and custom machine systems from concept through commissioning.
  • Review and support the design of automated machinery to ensure robotic feasibility and performance.
  • Develop robotic simulations to perform reach studies, validate concepts, and test cycle times.
  • Verify robotic functionality, efficiency, and safety prior to implementation.
  • Develop, write, and debug code for robotic arms, AGVs, or other automated equipment using specific languages. Program, test, and optimize robotic applications for production environments.
  • Integrate robots with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and other machinery; configure I/O and system settings.
  • Support robot vision systems, including setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Optimize robotic programs for speed, quality, and efficiency, contributing to continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, electrical, and mechanical teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in on-site commissioning, system startup, and customer support as required.
  • Must be able and willing to travel Canada, USA and Mexico
  • Create technical documentation and train operators on robot usage and functionality. 
  • Continuously research and evaluate new robotics, automation, and vision technologies for future applications.
  • Ensure compliance with robot safety standards and integration best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications (Must Have)

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in automation and/or custom machine build environments.
  • College Technician or Technologist Diploma in Industrial Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills (PLC, HMI, robot-specific languages).
  • Hands-on experience with robotic simulation and programming tools, including:
    • FANUC Roboguide
    • ABB RobotStudio
    • Octopuz
    • SolidWorks
  • Strong working knowledge of FANUC robots.
  • Experience with robot vision systems and vision-guided applications.
  • Solid understanding of robot integration, safety systems, and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Effective research and information-gathering capabilities.
  • Strong teamwork and communication. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines

Qualifications

  • Experience with custom machine building processes.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with multiple robot platforms, including:
    • FANUC
    • ABB
    • Motoman, and
    • KUKA
